Rhubarb extract is derived from the dried roots and rhizomes of Rheum palmatum,  or medicinal rhubarb.  Rheum palmatum and Rheum tanguticum are called rhubarb, which are mainly produced in Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan and other places.  The medicinal rhubarb is called southern rhubarb, which is mainly produced in Sichuan, Hubei and other places.  Rhubarb tastes bitter and cold, and belongs to the stomach, liver and large intestine meridian.  The Active Ingredient are anthraquinone compounds, including rhein, emodin, chrysophanol, aloe-emodin, emodin methyl ether, etc.
